International Women's Day, for the Hungry, the Cold, the Trafficked Ones
I wonder how many women are hungry today. I know they are by the millions, with their millions of children. I have seen thousands, desperate and powerless, unable to provide for their little boys and girls. I wonder how many girls and young women are trafficked on this day. Shocked, in trauma, or going mad. They are, again, countless. Hoping for nothing. Imprisoned, wishing but to live in freedom. Or, so many of them, wishing they were dead. Indeed, today, in a world we consider to be evolved, women are sold around as mere commodities. Products. Accessories.
We can see freezing girls in the outskirts of cities, lacking a home, and desperate for a life without suffering. By the millions.
I bet that so many women and girls with disabilities and special needs have no idea whatsoever that March 8 should be a special day for them, as well. Why should they.
Girls in institutions live through nightmare on earth. Their lives are void of love, affection, or caring.
In fact, this day turned into a good opportunity for trade and marketing. We are all bleeding out flowers and little presents and love declarations. We smile and spread around kisses. These are helpful, but self-sufficient and selfish. We love ourselves, we love our wives, daughters, mothers, and friends. Yet we cope with so much pain and with a universal show of war, inequity and torture. I hope some day these women will realize March 8 is meant to be theirs, as well. I hope some day we will all truly care about them also.
